Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has officially joined the popular video-sharing platform TikTok. Announcing his entry on his X handle, Obi invited his supporters to join him on the platform, stating, “This is my official and only TikTok page. Kindly join me towards building a new Nigeria that is possible.”
Obi’s decision follows a similar move by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who recently launched his own TikTok account after defecting from the All Progressives Congress to the Social Democratic Party. El-Rufai’s page quickly gained traction, attracting over 200,000 followers within 24 hours as he engages users on Nigerian politics and SDP activities.
As of the latest reports, Obi’s TikTok account has garnered significant attention, with his follower count varying across different reports. This move marks a strategic effort by both politicians to leverage social media for direct engagement with the public, particularly among younger demographics.
