A 16-year-old student, Olamide Aderibigbe, has distinguished himself in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) by scoring an impressive 336 out of 400, with a remarkable 98 in Mathematics.
Aderibigbe, who attends Starville International School in Jabi, Abuja, also posted strong results in other subjects: 86 in Physics, 68 in English, and 84 in Economics. His outstanding performance places him among the top scorers in this year’s UTME, an examination taken by over 1.9 million candidates nationwide.
Another standout candidate is Oritsemeyiwa Precious Ebule, also 16, from Federal Government College, Warri, Delta State. Ebule achieved a total score of 334, recording 98 in both Mathematics and Physics, 85 in Chemistry, and 53 in English. Ebule has chosen the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, as his first-choice institution and plans to study Mechanical Engineering.
According to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), only 12,414 candidates scored 300 and above in the 2025 UTME, with just 4,756 attaining 320 or higher. The majority of candidates-over 1.5 million-scored below 200, the average benchmark for the exam.
The UTME, a key requirement for university admission in Nigeria, assesses candidates in four core subjects, with English compulsory for all. The other three subjects are selected based on the candidate’s intended course of study.
The results, released on Friday, shows the achievements of exceptional students like Aderibigbe and Ebule, who have set themselves apart in a highly competitive examination year.
The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, noted the continued challenge of high competition for top scores, stating, “The number of candidates scoring above 300 remains low compared to the total number of participants, reflecting the rigorous standards of the UTME.”
