The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will release the results of 379,000 candidates who sat for the rescheduled Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on Wednesday, following widespread technical and human errors that marred the initial test.
JAMB rescheduled the UTME for candidates in Lagos and the South-East after acknowledging significant disruptions during the first round of exams. The board attributed the problems to both technical glitches and human errors, which led to unusually high failure rates and prompted public outcry.
JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, accepted responsibility for the situation, describing it as “sabotage” and expressing deep regret. “We are committed to ensuring fairness for all candidates,” Oloyede said, adding that measures are being put in place to prevent similar issues in the future.
A total of 379,997 candidates were impacted:
Lagos: 206,610 candidates across 65 centers
South-East: 173,387 candidates across 92 centers
Affected students began receiving notifications for the rescheduled exams last Thursday.
The initial UTME saw more than 1.9 million candidates sit for the exam, but over 1.5 million scored below 200 out of a possible 400 marks. Only 0.63% of candidates scored 300 and above, while more than half scored between 160 and 199, the minimum threshold for many institutions.
JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin confirmed, “The results of the candidates who took the rescheduled exam will be released on Wednesday.”
Candidates are advised to check their results online or await text notifications from JAMB. The board has assured stakeholders that it is working to address the technical and human lapses that affected the initial exam.
