The Ogun State Government, in partnership with the Bosun Tijani Foundation, has kicked off a six-month Artificial Intelligence (AI) Fellowship Programme to train young Nigerian developers in advanced AI skills.
The Gen AI Fellowship aims to equip participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in AI, preparing them to compete globally in the fast-growing tech field. All selected fellows will receive a monthly stipend during the programme.
Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, announced the initiative on social media, calling it a unique chance for aspiring developers to become part of Nigeria’s AI future. He encouraged interested candidates to apply via the official portal, which requires National Identification Number (NIN) verification before registration.
This fellowship is part of a broader push by the Nigerian government under President Bola Tinubu to boost digital skills and AI readiness. Other efforts include a N120 billion youth skills acquisition programme, a free AI Academy in partnership with Intel, and collaborations with international partners to expand tech training.
Dr. Tijani said the fellowship will nurture future AI innovators through hands-on training and support, helping Nigeria position itself as a leader in AI development in West Africa.
The programme’s launch shows Nigeria’s commitment to building a skilled workforce that can drive innovation and economic growth in the digital age. For young Nigerians eager to advance their tech careers, this fellowship offers a valuable stepping stone into the AI industry.
