A devastating explosion rocked Abuja last night, leaving a trail of destruction and loss of life. The incident occurred when a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) truck experienced brake failure, crashing into other vehicles and igniting a massive fireball at Kugbo Hill, near Karu Bridge on the Abuja-Keffi Road.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of horror as vehicles were engulfed in flames, trapping occupants inside. “The incident happened so fast. Several vehicles were burnt,” said Fatima Diamond, who witnessed the chaos. “I personally counted five vehicles, but I learnt it affected over 20 vehicles.”
The explosion caused significant disruptions, with commuters stranded for hours and many forced to trek to their destinations. Emergency responders, including the Federal Road Safety Corps and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), were quickly on the scene to manage the situation and rescue casualties.
The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (PCNG) Initiative expressed deep sadness over the incident, urging caution against speculation until a thorough investigation is completed. They commended the swift response of emergency services and reiterated their commitment to promoting safe energy practices.
As the city mourns the loss of life, efforts are underway to prevent such tragedies in the future.
