The Federal Ministry of Education has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to offer free digital skills training and certification to students and educators in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
This nationwide programme focuses on cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and other modern digital skills. It is part of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda to equip Nigerian youths with 21st-century competencies needed for the global digital economy.
Currently, the training is live in 43 federal universities and polytechnics, with plans to expand quickly to all federal, state, and private tertiary institutions including universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. The Ministry has called on Vice Chancellors, Rectors, and Provosts to nominate coordinators who will manage the programme locally and facilitate enrolment of lecturers and students.
Certification costs are fully covered by the Ministry and AWS, making the programme completely free for participants. This removes financial barriers and ensures wider access to quality digital education. The Ministry urges institutions to register their coordinators by July 19, 2025, to join the next phase of onboarding.
Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa described the initiative as “timely and transformative,” emphasizing its role in preparing Nigerian graduates and educators to compete globally. The programme aims to bridge the digital divide and create equal opportunities for all learners across Nigeria.
Institutions interested in joining can register via the Ministry’s official portal.
The Ministry will continue to expand the programme to more institutions nationwide, ensuring no student or educator is left behind in Nigeria’s digital future.
