Apple is currently restructuring its software deployment pipeline to push critical security fixes out to users early, responding directly to cybersecurity warnings that AI is making it faster and easier for hackers to target consumer devices.
The company told Reuters it will no longer wait to bundle certain security fixes with major iOS releases. Instead, some updates will be made available to users ahead of scheduled operating system upgrades to reduce the time attackers have to exploit known vulnerabilities.
This decision is a direct response to the sophisticated capabilities of AI, which is increasingly being used to accelerate the creation of malicious hacking tools. Although the company said there is no evidence that the newly patched vulnerabilities have been exploited, it believes faster updates will improve user protection.
“The time between the point when security fixes were first announced and when they were deployed to customers’ phones needed to be compressed” – Apple
Previously, Apple typically bundled security updates with diverse iOS releases, allowing developers and testers to evaluate the software before a public rollout. Under the new approach, the latest security patches will be released ahead of the launch of iOS 26.6.
While Apple views the move as a proactive response to emerging AI-powered cyber threats, cybersecurity experts have increasingly warned that artificial intelligence is making it easier for attackers to identify and exploit software vulnerabilities more quickly, putting pressure on technology companies to respond faster.
