The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has partnered with TikTok to launch a Digital Commerce Lab for SMEs in Lagos, to accelerate digital entrepreneurship and expand access to online business opportunities across Nigeria.
According to NITDA, the initiative is supported by a $20,000 pilot Train-the-Trainer programme that will provide practical digital commerce training, educational materials, and facilitator guides through the DL4ALL network of the agency.
Representing NITDA Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Dr. Aristotle Onumo said digital commerce has become essential for the growth and sustainability of Nigerian businesses.
“The future of commerce is digital. SMEs must leverage platforms to access new markets, increase productivity, and drive growth” – Onumo
The agency stated that the partnership is targeted at promoting digital inclusion and ensuring that businesses of all sizes can compete in the global marketplace. The training programme will benefit entrepreneurs in rural and underserved areas who have traditionally faced barriers to accessing digital skills education.
The program could also help more Nigerian businesses adopt digital tools, expand their customer base, and improve competitiveness. The collaboration also strengthens ongoing efforts by government and private-sector stakeholders to increase digital literacy nationwide.
