X launches hosted MCP server to simplify AI app integration

X has introduced a hosted Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that allows AI assistants such as Claude, Cursor, Grok Build, and other MCP-compatible applications to connect directly to the platform using a user’s account permissions.

The new feature removes the need for developers to build and manage their own MCP servers before integrating AI applications with X. Instead, X now hosts the infrastructure while users authenticate access through their own X accounts.

Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that enables AI models to securely interact with external tools and services. Under the previous setup, developers had to create, host, and maintain an MCP server alongside handling authentication with X’s API. The hosted MCP simplifies that process, allowing developers to focus on building AI-powered applications.

The update does not introduce new API capabilities. Developers can still search X, read posts, analyze conversations, and retrieve public data through the API of the platform. However, the hosted MCP makes those capabilities easier to integrate into AI assistants and other compatible tools.

X said the service continues to operate under its existing API rules. The company noted that the hosted MCP does not bypass safeguards designed to detect automated spam or abusive activity.

Earlier this year, the company updated its API to limit programmatic spam and increased API pricing for publishing posts and links, saying the changes were intended to reduce misuse of the platform.

With the new hosted MCP server, X joins companies including GitHub, Slack, Notion, Stripe, and Salesforce, which already provide official MCP endpoints for AI integrations.
