FG Orders Federal Tertiary Institutions to Publish Budgets, Student Data by May 31

Nigeria’s higher education system, the Federal Government has directed all federal tertiary institutions to publish critical institutional data on their official websites by May 31, 2025. This directive, issued by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, aims to align Nigeria’s tertiary education management with global best practices.

Key Requirements
Budget Disclosure: Institutions must detail their annual budget allocations, breaking down expenditures into personnel costs, overhead costs, and capital expenditures.

Research Grants: Data on grants received from both domestic and international sources must be disclosed.

TETFund Allocations: Institutions must clearly outline the total amount received from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund and how it supports academic and infrastructural development.

Endowment Funds: The total value of endowment funds must be published and updated quarterly.

Student Population: Institutions must provide enrollment figures categorized into undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

To ensure adherence, the Ministry of Education will conduct regular audits of institutional websites. Non-compliant institutions may face administrative actions. This initiative is part of broader reforms aimed at restoring public trust, enhancing performance-based funding, and improving Nigeria’s global education standing.
