UTME candidates free to choose exam towns nationwide – JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has set the record straight for 2025 UTME candidates: “you can write your exam in any town across Nigeria, regardless of where you registered”.

This clarification comes after confusion following earlier reports that candidates would be restricted to their state of registration. Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, emphasized that candidates are “not restricted to taking the examination within their state of registration.” Instead, you can register from anywhere and freely select your preferred exam town nationwide.

“For example, if a candidate selects Garki as their examination town, they must take the exam in a centre within the town and cannot be posted outside the town as has been alleged at times,” Dr. Benjamin explained.

JAMB organizes Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres by towns for candidates’ convenience, not by state. The board urges candidates to disregard misinformation and assures that anyone who chose an exam town outside their state of registration can sit for the exam there.

The 2025 UTME begins April 25, and candidates are encouraged to double-check their exam towns and follow all official guidelines to avoid confusion.
