NABTEB moves to digitise exams, partnering with NASENI

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) is taking a major step toward modernising its operations by partnering with the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) to digitise its examination processes.

In a statement released Sunday in Benin, Mr. Uchechukwu Olisah, NABTEB’s Assistant Director of Media and Protocol, announced that the collaboration was formalised during a meeting on April 29 at the board’s headquarters.

Dr. Aminu Mohammed, NABTEB’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, said the partnership is part of efforts to upgrade the board’s ICT infrastructure and improve examination security. He explained that the move is in line with the federal government’s directive for all national examinations to be fully digitised by 2026.

“NABTEB is responsible for the registration, question paper development, and conduct of craft and master craft exams. To deliver on this mandate, we need robust ICT infrastructure,” Dr. Mohammed said.

He noted that the upgrade is urgent, reflecting policy directions from the Ministry of Education and the presidency. The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf O. Alausa, has called for all examination bodies to adopt computer-based testing by 2026, supporting President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

NASENI has pledged to deliver a fully equipped ICT building to NABTEB within six months.

Mr. Bashir Aliyu, Special Adviser on Emerging Technology to NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment. “We are here to support you with digitisation. This is the way forward-to help you leapfrog by relying on ICT,” he said.

Dr. Mohammed, who assumed office in March, said the digital shift would reduce human errors, speed up processing times, and boost operational efficiency.

NABTEB’s latest results show that 73.19% of candidates achieved five credits or more, though cases of malpractice were still recorded. The board remains optimistic that improved digital infrastructure will help maintain the integrity and efficiency of its examinations.
