The Kano State Hisbah Board has banned mobile movie downloading business across all 44 local government areas of the state, due to concerns raised over the distribution of content it says violates Islamic teachings, local culture and moral values.
According to the Deputy Commander-General of the board, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, investigations by the board found that operators of the business were distributing movies and videos containing content considered inconsistent with Islamic principles and acceptable social values.
Aminuddeen directed all operators of the mobile movie downloading business to cease operations immediately, warning that anyone found violating the directive would face legal action.
“Our findings show that this business contributes to the spread of films and videos that contain content contrary to religion, our culture and good morals. That is why we have decided to stop the business to protect young people from moral decay and reduce the circulation of harmful content…We are calling on all operators of this business to comply with this directive. Anyone caught violating the ban will face the full weight of the law” – Aminuddeen
